How to download Instagram videos?

With a Reel it's usually one section that matters: the part of the tutorial that helps, the step in the recipe, the few seconds you want to show someone. Trimming lets you keep that and download only that.
Only the section is requested
When you mark start and end, only that interval is downloaded, not the full video. With a thirty-second Reel the difference is small; with a long video in a post, it stops being small.
MP4 or GIF
MP4 keeps sound and quality and opens anywhere. GIF plays by itself on a loop and works where video isn't allowed, but it carries no audio and weighs more per second, so it only works well if the section is short and reads without sound.
The limits, stated plainly
- Public accounts only. Private content isn't reachable from outside the app and we don't ask anyone for credentials.
- Not Stories. They last 24 hours and have no stable public link to process.
- It isn't an editor. It doesn't join clips, add text or change the music: it cuts an interval and hands it over.

Does it work with Reels and with videos in posts?
With both, as long as the account is public. You copy the post's link the same way either way and the process is identical.
What about Stories?
No. Stories last 24 hours and have no stable public link that can be processed from outside, so there's nothing to trim.
Can I trim a video inside a carousel?
If the post has several media items you pick which one first; the Instagram carousel page explains how that selection works. The trim then applies to whichever video you chose.
What quality does the section come out in?
The best Instagram serves for that video, usually 1080p. Instagram already compresses a fair amount when publishing, so the trim starts from that: we can't recover detail the platform doesn't hand over.
Can I trim a video from a private account?
No. Private posts aren't reachable without signing in with an authorised account, and we don't ask anyone for their credentials. It only works with public content.
