Saving an image from X with a right-click seems solved until you open it and find it smaller than expected. It isn't you: X's site serves a reduced version of the image so the page loads fast, and that's what the browser saves.

What size X gives you, and what you get here

We measured it on a real photo: the version X served by default was 1200×752 pixels and the one the author had uploaded was 1364×855. Almost a third more surface, and that's the one you get. The difference shows exactly when it matters: cropping, printing, or viewing on a big screen.

Where fromSize in that exampleWeight
Save image from X1200 × 752209 kB
Here (author's original)1364 × 855263 kB

An honest caveat: if the author uploaded an image at 1200 pixels or less, both versions are the same and there's nothing to gain. What we promise is the original as uploaded, not that it's always bigger.

Posts with several images

An X post takes up to four images. When you paste a link like that, they all get listed with their thumbnail and you choose which to save, instead of opening them one at a time and repeating the process four times.

What isn't possible

  • Protected accounts. Not reachable from outside without signing in, and we don't ask anyone for credentials.
  • Deleted posts or suspended accounts. If the content is gone from X, there's nothing to download.
  • Sensitive content behind a warning. X sometimes requires a session to show it; then it doesn't come through.

If you're after the video in a post rather than its photos, use the X downloader. And for photos from other platforms there are TikTok's, the Instagram carousel and Reddit images.

Frequently asked questions about X (Twitter)

How is this different from saving the image from X?

The size. Hitting «save image» on X's site gives you the version the browser is displaying, which is usually reduced. We request the author's original: on a photo we measured, X served 1200×752 and the original was 1364×855 — almost a third more surface. If the author uploaded a small image, the two are identical.

Does it work with posts that have several photos?

Yes. An X post can carry up to four images, and they all get listed so you choose which to download. No need to open each one separately.

Can I download photos from a private account?

No. Protected accounts aren't reachable from outside without signing in with an authorised profile, and we don't ask anyone for their credentials. It only works with public posts.

What format do they download in?

Whatever they were uploaded as, usually JPG, and PNG when that's what the author used. They aren't re-encoded: the file arrives as is, with no loss added by us.

What if the post has video instead of photos?

Then we hand you the video as MP4, which is what you want. That's the X downloader, and if the post carries a GIF, here's why it's really an MP4.
