How to download Reddit videos?

1

Open the post on Reddit and copy its link (Share → Copy link).

2

Paste the link above.

3

Check the image that appears.

4

Download — it saves straight to your device.

On Reddit, what you see in the post isn't always the file. The platform generates compressed previews so pages load fast, and if you save from there you take that version home, not the one the poster uploaded.

What this tool downloads

You paste the post's link and the image is fetched as it's hosted, skipping the preview. What arrives is the file, not a copy re-compressed along the way.

Single images yes, galleries no (and why)

Worth saying before you find out halfway: it works with single-image posts, which are the vast majority. Multi-image galleries are left out on purpose, because Reddit doesn't expose them in full reliably from outside, and handing you three out of seven as if they were all would be worse than not offering it.

Long links and short links

Both work. The normal browser link (reddit.com/r/…/comments/…) and the short one the app makes when sharing (reddit.com/r/…/s/…), which gets resolved to the real post first. Same as with videos.

What isn't possible

  • Private communities and content that demands a login: not reachable from outside.
  • Many NSFW posts, which Reddit closes to anyone without an account.
  • Deleted posts: if it's gone, there's no file to look for.

Were you after the video rather than the image? The Reddit downloader delivers it with sound, which is where almost every alternative fails. And for photos from other platforms there are X's, TikTok's and the Instagram carousel.

Frequently asked questions about Reddit

Does it work with multi-image galleries?

No, and we'd rather say it plainly: Reddit doesn't expose full galleries reliably from outside, so handing you half of them as if they were all would be misleading. It works with single-image posts, which are the majority.

Do I need a Reddit account?

No. The post just has to be public. Private communities and content that demands a login aren't reachable from outside, and we don't ask anyone for their credentials.

Do the short links the app shares work?

Yes. The Reddit app generates links like reddit.com/r/whatever/s/…, and we take those too: they're resolved to the real post before the image is looked up.

What about NSFW posts?

Many require signing in to be seen, and then they don't come through. That isn't our decision: it's Reddit closing them to anyone without an account.

What if the post is a video or a GIF?

Then what you want is the Reddit video downloader, which also merges the audio — Reddit stores video and sound separately, which is why so many tools give a silent clip. And if it's a GIF, it's really an MP4.
