On Instagram, the profile picture —what many people call a "DP", short for *display picture*— is the round image that represents an account. It looks tiny in the app, but the original file Instagram keeps is larger than what you see on screen. This tool lets you retrieve and download that profile picture from any public account, at the best quality the platform makes available.
What the profile picture (DP) is and why people download it
The profile picture is the visible face of an account: a portrait, a logo, an avatar or an illustration. Instagram shows it cropped into a very small circle, so seeing it or saving it at full size from the app isn't easy. There are perfectly legitimate reasons to want to download it:
- Saving your own at a better size, to reuse it on another network or make a backup before you change it.
- Viewing or saving the avatar of a contact or a brand you follow, for example to recognize it better or add it to your address book.
- Design and reference: using a public image as a visual reference in your own work, always with permission and without appropriating it.
- Checking the image at a larger size when the app's thumbnail is too small to tell clearly which account it is.
Public accounts only (and why it matters)
PullVid can only access the profile picture of public accounts. If a profile is private, its content —including the full-size profile picture— isn't accessible from outside the app without authentication, and it shouldn't be: it's how Instagram respects the privacy of anyone who chooses not to show their account openly. This tool doesn't bypass that protection and doesn't log in to any account. If the profile is private, there will be no image to download, and that's the way it should be.
What resolution does it download in?
Let's be honest about this, because there are downloaders that promise sizes that don't exist. Instagram serves the profile picture from its public web at a limited size: it's not a multi-megapixel photo, but the version the platform exposes. PullVid delivers the best quality available of that image, without cropping it further or recompressing it, but it can't invent pixels Instagram doesn't publish. We don't promise 1080 px or huge sizes: we give you exactly what Instagram offers, which is usually enough for an avatar, a reference or a copy of your own.
How to download the profile picture step by step
On PC (Windows or Mac)
In the field above, type the account's username (for example @nasa) or paste the full profile link (instagram.com/nasa). Press Search: PullVid locates that public account's profile picture and shows it to you in a preview. Check that it's the right profile and press Download profile picture. The image is saved to your Downloads folder.
On mobile (Android or iPhone)
Open the profile in the Instagram app, tap the three dots (⋯) at the top right and choose Copy profile link (or just remember the username). Open your browser —Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone—, go to PullVid and paste the link or type the username. Download the image: on Android it goes to the Downloads folder and on iPhone to the Files app, from where you can move it to Photos.
Responsible use: public content, not impersonation
A public account's profile picture is, by definition, content visible to anyone. Downloading it for legitimate personal use —saving your own, recognizing a contact, keeping a reference— is a common practice. What is not acceptable, and not allowed, is using someone else's image to impersonate them, create fake accounts, harass or imply that you represent someone you're not. The image still belongs to whoever uploaded it: use it with respect. If you want a broader view of what is and isn't safe when saving content from this network, read our guide on whether it's safe to download from Instagram.
Privacy: we don't store anything
PullVid acts as an intermediary: it looks up the public profile picture, hands it to you, and that's it. We don't store the image or the username you search on our servers, there's no need to create an account, and we don't install anything on your device. If, besides the profile picture, you want to save videos from this network, there's the Instagram Downloader for Reels and posts; and if you'd rather do it from your phone without installing apps, see how to download Reels without an app.

Frequently asked questions about Instagram
Can I download the profile picture of a private account?
No. PullVid only accesses the profile picture of public accounts. If a profile is private, its full-size image isn't accessible from outside the app without logging in, and this tool doesn't bypass that protection: it's how Instagram respects that person's privacy.
What resolution or size does the profile picture download in?
In the best quality Instagram offers publicly for that image. The profile picture is served at a limited size, not several megapixels: we deliver the available version as is, without cropping or recompressing it, but we can't enlarge it beyond what the platform publishes.
Is it legal and ethical to download someone's profile picture?
A public account's profile picture is content visible to anyone, and saving it for legitimate personal use is common. What is not acceptable or allowed is using the image to impersonate another person, create fake accounts, harass or pass it off as your own. Use it with respect: the image still belongs to whoever uploaded it.
Do you store the image or my data?
No. PullVid only acts as an intermediary: it looks up the public profile picture and hands it to you. We don't store the image or the username you search, and you don't need to create any account.
Do I need the Instagram app or to log in?
No. Everything works from your browser, with nothing to install and without logging in to Instagram or any account. You just type the username or paste the profile link and download the image.
