YouCompress Not Working? Why It Fails and What to Do

You drag the video into YouCompress, the bar starts moving, and there it sits. Or it finishes and the file weighs almost the same as before. Before you try a third time, it's worth knowing what is actually failing, because it's nearly always the same thing and there's no fix on your side.

First thing to understand: your whole video has to travel

YouCompress compresses on its own servers. That means your entire file has to climb your upload connection before any work starts, and the result has to come back down afterwards. An 800 MB video on a normal home connection is several minutes during which anything can break the process.

That single detail explains most of the failures, and also why no trick fixes them: the tool isn't broken, the job just depends on a long upload you don't control.

The most common causes

• It stalls on the upload. The file is big and the upload drops: you close the tab, the phone sleeps, the home network hiccups. The bar looks frozen because it is.
• The file is over their size ceiling. Free services cap it, because every file costs them disk and bandwidth. If yours is over, no amount of retrying helps.
• Peak-hour queue. It's a shared server: when a lot of people are compressing, you wait.
• The result isn't small enough. You don't pick the final size; the tool squeezes «as much as it can». If you needed 16 MB for WhatsApp and it leaves you at 40, you waited through the whole upload for nothing.
• Mobile has it worse. Uploading a gallery video over mobile data is slow and fragile, and the screen switching off is enough to kill it.

What to do right now

If the video is small and your connection is good, retrying usually works. If it's big, retrying means losing the same stretch of time again. The way out is not uploading it anywhere.
