ssstwitter not working: why it fails and what to do

Daniel CarterBy Daniel CarterPublished August 5, 20265 min read

Short version: when ssstwitter leaves you hanging it's usually one of four things: the tweet isn't public, X changed something under the hood, your ad blocker is breaking the page, or the video is a type it doesn't handle. None of them is fixed by hitting the button again.

1. The tweet isn't public

The most common cause, and the least explained. ssstwitter only handles public tweets. If the account is protected, the content isn't reachable without a logged-in session, and no web tool has one. The error you get is usually generic, so it looks like the tool is broken when it's actually a privacy wall.

Check it by opening the link in a private browser window, signed out. If you can't see the video there, no downloader will either.

2. X changed something under the hood

X has been progressively closing and reshaping access to its data, and the April 2026 changes knocked out several downloaders. ssstwitter survived, but each of those changes causes days of failures while it adapts. If it suddenly fails on every video at once, that's usually this — and it usually fixes itself.

The tell: if it fails on any tweet, including a recent public one from a big account, it isn't you.

3. Your ad blocker is breaking the page

It sounds backwards, but it happens often: these sites are ad-funded, and some blockers also take down the scripts that make the download button work. You're left with a loaded page and a button that does nothing.

Easy to test: turn it off for that site for a moment. If it works, you've found it. The trade-off is that you'll then see all of their advertising, overlays and redirects included.

4. The video is a type it doesn't handle

  • Live broadcasts or audio spaces: not a normal video.
  • Deleted tweets or suspended accounts: the link exists, the content doesn't.
  • Videos embedded from another platform: if the tweet only links to YouTube, there's no X video to fetch.

What to do right now

First, make sure you're pasting the right link: the specific tweet, not the profile. In the app you copy it from Share → Copy link.

If the link is right and it still fails, paste the tweet into PullVid: it's a different implementation, so their failure isn't necessarily ours. And if you only need the audio, there's X to MP3.

If the problem repeats across many tools at once, it's worth reading why video downloaders stop working: there's usually a common cause behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does ssstwitter just spin and never finish?

Usually the tweet isn't public, or an ad blocker has taken down the button's script. Try the link in a private window to rule out the first, and disable the blocker briefly to rule out the second.

Is ssstwitter down?

If it fails on any tweet, including a recent public one, it's probably them or an X change. If it fails on one specific tweet, look at that tweet: private, deleted, live, or with the video hosted elsewhere.

Did X's 2026 changes break it?

The April 2026 changes knocked out several downloaders; ssstwitter kept working, but each change causes a few days of failures until it adapts.

Can I download a video from a protected account?

Not with a web tool. It would need a logged-in session, and any service asking for your X username and password for this is a risk that isn't worth taking.

What if the tweet has several videos?

Some downloaders only take the first one. If one is missing, try the direct link to that specific video inside the thread.
