RedditSave not working: why it fails and what to do now

RedditSave is a Reddit downloader that's reliable most of the time, but since it depends on a single platform as changeable as Reddit, it also has its moments of failure. Here are the real causes when it doesn't work and what to do in the meantime, no mystery involved.

Is RedditSave down right now?

It might be. Like any free web service, RedditSave can get overloaded during high-traffic hours or go temporarily out of service if Reddit changes something in how it serves its videos. In those cases, the tool needs time to adapt, and until then it may sit loading or return an error even though the video plays fine on Reddit.

Before assuming the site is down, it's worth telling apart a general outage from a problem with that specific video: if other links do work and only one fails, the reason is almost certainly the post itself, not RedditSave.

Most common causes of RedditSave not working

• The post is private, NSFW, or quarantined: videos that require signing in (for age) and ones from private communities aren't accessible from outside; no tool can download them.
• The video was deleted: if the author or the moderators removed the post, the video no longer exists on Reddit's servers and there's nothing to download.
• The link expired or is incomplete: you copied the link to a comment instead of the post, or a shared link that has expired.
• Reddit recently changed something: when Reddit adjusts how it serves its videos, RedditSave needs to update to recognize them again.
• The video came out with no sound: that's not a download failure, it's that the video was uploaded without an audio track (many GIFs and memes), or the tool only captured the image track.

What to do right now

1. Check that the video plays normally on the Reddit app or website before trying again.
2. Make sure you copied the link to the post (starting with reddit.com/ or redd.it/), not a comment's.
3. Close any tab or pop-up that opened on its own and retry without clicking any ads.
4. If the video is private, NSFW with login, from a closed community, or already deleted, accept it: there's no honest way to download it.
5. If the failure persists and the video is public, try a different tool directly.

If the problem is that it comes out silent
