How to Download a Saved Live Stream (Facebook Live)

June 29, 20266 min read

You can download a Facebook live stream (Facebook Live) once it has ended and remains saved as a public video on the page or profile. When the live stream finishes, Facebook turns it into a normal video: you copy its link, paste it into the Facebook downloader, and save it as MP4. What you can't do is download a live stream while it's still streaming, nor live streams from private accounts or groups.

Why you can't download a live stream while it's streaming

While a Live is streaming, it isn't a closed file: it's a continuous flow that is still being generated. There's no complete video to download until the live stream ends. That's why the reliable way is to wait for the live stream to finish: at that point Facebook publishes it as just another video on the page or profile (if it's public).

How to download a finished Facebook Live

  1. Wait for the live stream to end. When it finishes, it stays saved as a video on the author's page or profile (as long as it's public).
  2. Open the live stream video on Facebook and tap the three dots (⋯) on the post → Copy link.
  3. Paste the link into PullVid's Facebook downloader.
  4. Choose the quality and tap Download. You get the MP4 of the full live stream.

Live streams tend to be long, so they may offer several resolutions; choose the one you prefer based on the file size. If the link won't process, review why you can't download a Facebook video.

Private or closed-group live streams

If the live stream is from a private profile, a closed group, or has restricted privacy, it can't be downloaded with any tool, just like any other private video. We explain this in downloading private or closed-group Facebook videos. Only public live streams that have already finished work.

Watch out for the sound on live streams

Facebook is especially strict with music on live streams: if a copyrighted song played during the Live, Facebook may mute that segment in the recording. That comes from the platform and affects the download too: the MP4 will have the audio exactly as it was saved.

Frequently asked questions

Can you download a Facebook live stream while it's streaming?

No. While the Live is streaming it's a continuous flow that is still being generated, not a closed file. You have to wait for the live stream to finish: then Facebook saves it as a public video and you can copy its link and download it with PullVid.

How do I download a finished Facebook Live?

When the live stream ends it stays as a normal video on the page or profile (if it's public). Open it, tap the three dots (⋯) → Copy link, and paste it into PullVid's Facebook downloader. Choose the quality and download the MP4.

Can I download a live stream from a closed or private group?

No. Like any private or closed-group video, a restricted live stream requires session and permission, so it can't be downloaded with any tool. Only public live streams that have already finished work.

Why does the downloaded live stream have segments with no sound?

Facebook mutes the segments of a live stream where copyrighted music played. That restriction is applied to the saved recording, so the downloaded MP4 will have the audio exactly as Facebook left it.
