Convertio Not Working: Why It Fails and an Alternative That Actually Converts

If Convertio throws an error, gets stuck loading, or simply won't let you convert another file, it's not bad luck: its model — upload the file to a server and process it there — has limits that show up sooner or later. 1. File size limit on the free tier

Convertio's free plan caps each file's size at around 100 MB. Try to upload a video that's a bit long or in high resolution and it's easy to go over that without noticing — the upload fails, or you get prompted to upgrade for larger files.

2. Daily conversion cap

Beyond file size, the free account has a maximum number of conversions per day. If you're converting several files in a row — say, a batch of photos or clips from a folder — you can hit that ceiling before you're done and have to wait until the next day or pay.

3. Slow uploads and peak-hour queues

Since the whole file travels to their server before conversion starts, speed depends on your upload connection, which is usually slower than your download speed. During busy hours, your conversion can also end up queued behind other users' jobs, turning what should take seconds into several minutes.

4. Stuck loading with no result

A common symptom when a large file, a slow connection, and a busy server all line up: the progress bar just stops and never reaches a result, with no clear error message telling you why.
